Updated: Jun 24, 2020

Video marketing infographic

This year the world of video marketing has seen a 17% increase in businesses using video as a marketing tool. That’s 81% of businesses using video in 2019. Not very far from 100%. In the months and years to come we will be in a world where video is the tool of choice to sell all types of services, products and ideas. Studies have shown that marketers who use video are more likely to grow revenue 49% faster than non-video users. It’s no surprise video trends are growing so quickly. But statistics are boring, the real question is…

..should you be using video for your business? The answer of course is yes! But what kind of videos should you be using and how do you pick the right one?

Video marketing social media

There are many different types of video that can be used to market a product or service. Things to consider when choosing what type of video to produce for your business are:

- Audience

- Reach

- Quality

- Message

Firstly who is your audience, how old are they? Will they be using social media more often that checking emails? Finding out what their interests are is super important. A young adult isn’t going to be inclined to watch a video that is styled for the over 50’s.This type of research will give you an idea of how to plan your video to appeal to the target audience and also where to deploy your videos.

This takes us onto our next point - Reach. Now you know who your audience is and what appeals to them you now need to create a video to share with them. Research is the best way to find how your target audience spend their time online and what their video habits are. Where is the best place share your videos to reach your audience? 85% of facebook videos are watched without sound, this is just a tiny example of the type of crucial research that is needed to get your video production choices right first time to be able to reap the benefits.

Moving on to quality, no one wants an amateur video that looks unprofessional. That isn’t a great look. But as a business you don’t want to break the bank, especially as a small start up or individual sole trader. It’s always best to research your local production companies, view their work and get in touch for their prices. Larger companies and big brands will likely spend much more in order to keep up with their competitors, but that’s not to say you can’t get a professional looking video that’s in your price range. Opting for 2D animation can keep costs down or if that doesn’t fit the brief a short and simple film will be kinder to the bank. Shorter videos under 2 minutes long get the most engagement so not only are they cost effective, they’re also more functional than longer videos.

Lastly - your message. What is your USP? What do you want your audiences to do after watching your video? Buy your product of course. Video production companies exist to help you realise your ideas and turn them into an innovative and entertaining video with purpose. Making a list of all the reasons customers should buy from you over your competitors is a great place to start. Finding a way of conveying those reasons through video is the video production companies job.

Our next post will touch more on the types of video available for businesses. Stayed tuned.
